I recently had the pleasure of producing a series of illustrated maps for Traveller Magazine, the inflight magazine of EasyJet airlines. The commission involved making maps of various destinations with icons of landmarks and buildings etc. It was a nice challenge and a fun job to work on. Thanks to the client and to the good folks at my agency - Lemonade Illustration.
Earlier this year I decided to have a go at doing some book cover illustrations, just for the fun of it really. I have been working on these in between commissions since then and I thought I would share of few of the resulting images. I had a lot of fun working on these, hopefully more to come soon.
Here are some pics of my current show with Angela Keoghan. The exhibition runs until January 18th at The Framing Workshop. Thanks to all the people who have come along and purchased works. Big thanks to Sarah at the Framing Workshop for her beautiful framing and hanging expertise.
I am happy to say that I now have a throw pillow available for sale at my Society6 store - featuring (fittingly) my illustration 'The Sleep of Reason'. There is also a rather nice tote bag available of the same image. Go here to see the prices etc or for art prints. Free worldwide shipping until Monday as well!
I am very much looking forward to my upcoming illustration show with friend and fellow illustrationeer Angela Keoghan. The show will feature framed giclee prints of illustrations which will be for sale, based on the theme of maps, exploration and wild goose chases! Here is the poster for the exhibition which will be opening on Friday 23rd, at The Framing Workshop in Hamilton. Would love to see you there if you are in the area.
I was recently very pleased to do an illustration for the Wall Street Journal (Asia), for an article entitled 'What to read this Fall'. Autumnal colours are always a pleasure to work with so I really enjoyed working on this one.
Click here to see it in context and read the article over at the online edition.
Some of my work has been featured recently on the Jolly Bureau website - in the curate section which is a blog showcasing inspiration from illustrators and designers. Thanks to the guys at Jolly Bureau for featuring me, I recommend having a browse around the blogs as there is lots of good stuff posted on there.
I recently did this quickie illustration (very short turnaround!) for Wintec Circle - it was for a postcard aimed at recent graduates. We ended up going with a brighter yellow background to fit the branding but I still quite like the original palette so here is a look...
Here is a little peek at a full page illustration I completed awhile ago for Unlimited Magazine (it's in the current issue), about the Snark stealth helicopter which was designed by New Zealander Trevor Rodgers. I had a lot of fun working on this one, taking a little bit of inspiration from Lewis Carroll's 'The Hunting of the Snark'.
I seem to be posting a lot about the show, however I have also just completed some editorial illustrations for magazines here and in the UK, so there will be some non-show related stuff coming very soon.
For now, you can see some pics from the opening night here.
Here is a look at some of my drawings from the '40 Winks' show, currently on at Draw Inc. in Hamilton. The images are based on narrative fragments from various folk tales. Thanks to Anne Challinor of Draw Inc. for these pics.
Here is the poster for an group exhibition that I am involved in. Opens next week - check it out if you are in the area, some great work by these good folks. I have contributed some pencil drawings. Should be fun!
